Lights, camera…action! This year’s theater program kicks off with a promising start as the cast begins to prepare for the first play of the year, “The Bold, the Young and the Murdered.” This production promises to keep the audience on the edge of its seats until the very end.
The story takes place on a film set with a group of actors performing for a soap opera. However, when they start being picked off one by one they quickly become aware that their lives are at stake. As the bodies begin to pile up, the anticipation rises and one question comes to mind: “Who is behind all the murders?”
Directed by Mr. Jason McClain, this production brings together a talented group of actors and tech crew who are dedicated to give a good show. We spoke to a few of the actors for their thoughts on the play.
Marlene Ruiz, a junior, noted that this year’s cast is larger than those from the past two years, and she’s excited about the potential.
“Having a full deck of actors this year will make the play even better,” she said.
Ruiz plays Cybil Dane, a character who has been on the soap opera for so long that she sometimes struggles to distinguish between her on- and off-screen lives.
Nicole Aguirre, a senior, is a theater veteran who has been cast in every single performance at Del Oro and has been in the Theater class since junior year.
“The cast is different in its own way,” Aguirre stated with a smile. “They all bring the spirit to the department and they’re great additions to the play.”
Aguirre plays Danielle Farris, an upbeat young woman who is excited to be part of the soap opera.
The cast for “The Bold, the Young and the Murdered” also includes several freshmen. One of those freshmen, Manuel Escobar, said the cast is fun and he loves working with people that he knows. He said he believes the cast is working incredibly hard with each other in and out of school.
“That is great for the play to run smoothly,” he said.
If you are interested in watching this comedic take on a murder mystery, opening night is Oct. 31. The play also has showings on Nov. 1 and 2. You can purchase tickets from the Finance office.
