As students make their way to class in Del Oro’s crowded hallways there’s a pair of seniors who always seem to catch many people’s eyes, making them draw a double take.
Nathan and Ethan Rojas are twin brothers known for their humor and identical expressions. These twins are just hard to miss.
But, there is a lot more to them than just being twins. Outside of school, they stay involved in their school community and are leaving their mark on campus through their works of leadership. Both are members of Interact, L.I.S.T.O.S, and the SunSeekers.
“I just think it’s interesting that people expect us to be the exact same but I think we’re very different from each other you know,” Nathan explained.
Ethan is older than Nathan by four minutes. However, they shared a theory that possibly overturns the question of who is older: There is a chance they may have been swapped at birth.
According to the twins, their parents used to tell them apart by putting different-colored socks on them. One day, their socks were taken off at the same time and their parents just hoped for the best.
Technically, Ethan might be Nathan – and Nathan might be Ethan.
Despite looking identical to one another, Ethan and Nathan claim to never have swapped classes with each other to trick teachers. When asked if they’ve ever completed each other’s sentences?
Nathan: “Sometimes, yeah, we –”
Ethan: “– say the same thing.”

While most people have a hard time telling the twins apart, they said they don’t believe that they look identical.
“I don’t think we look like too much alike,” Nathan said.
“Yeah exactly,” Ethan responded.
Added Nathan: “That’s just what I think, but some people say that we do look exactly alike.”
Ethan responded, “Some people say we do, some people say we don’t.”
With a laugh, Nathan said: “You just copied what I said, bro.”
On the field, they’re key members of the Suns varsity baseball team. Ethan has played for four years while Nathan has played for three. In their free time when they’re not practicing their fielding and hitting, they play Clash Royale.
Nathan claimed that he is not the evil twin.
“I think I’m nice,” he said.
Ethan’s quick response: “If you ask anyone, they are going to say it’s him.”
After graduation both twins plan to attend college. Nathan shared that his dream schools are the University of California at Berkeley and UC Irvine. He has applied to all the UC campuses, as well as California State University of Bakersfield.
When it comes to the idea of attending the same college as Ethan, Nathan said he’s open to the option.
“It doesn’t really matter if we go to the same one or separate,” Nathan said. “It just depends on where we get in.”
Ethan’s dream school is UC San Diego, and he also applied to UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Davis.
“If we do get accepted to the same schools, that would be pretty cool,” he said. “But we might end up going our separate ways.”
Jonathan Frias, a member of the SunSeekers Club, met the twins in Jovanni Garcia’s World History class during their sophomore year.
“I literally still confuse them,” said Frias, when asked if it was difficult to tell them apart.
Frias said it is much easier for him to tell them apart now because he interacts with them more in the SunSeekers Club.
“Their hair helps, and there are some facial features, but it’s still hard,” he said. “And their height. Ethan is taller than Nathan.”
When asked who was the evil twin without hesitation Frias responded, “Ethan is the evil twin. He has to be.”
Sebastian Chavez is another friend of the twins.
“I met the twins during sophomore year through a friend,” Chavez said. “My first impression of them was that they were both smart.”
Chavez added: “It wasn’t really hard to tell them apart. They had different haircuts and it was always pretty noticeable.”
Now that Chavez has known the twins for quite a while, it’s much easier to tell them apart.
“It’s definitely much easier to tell them apart now since Ethan has a slick back and Nathan has curly hair,” Chavez said.
Going back to the ongoing debate about who is the “evil twin,” without a second thought Chavez jokingly said, “Ethan has to be the evil twin. He’s always hating on me”

Ethan and Nathan, or how I like to call them, “Yin and Yang”, have been my best friends ever since elementary school and although at times we have our disagreements, we still maintain as “brothers from another mother.” At times they make me feel stupid which is crazy because they always come to me asking me questions regarding schoolwork. Not only that but they also ask me to revise their essays. I enjoyed reading this article about them, and I hope to see their names in the news one day regarding their accomplishments.
