On paper, Del Oro’s varsity football team looks solid, with returning players Keenan Starling, Jaidyn Brown and Ali Nasher leading the Suns passing attack at quarterback, and Gavin Roberson among the starting running backs controlling the team’s rushing game. On paper, the Suns look promising. But on the field?
The Suns seek to answer that question when the team opens its home season Thursday evening against the Cesar Chavez Titans. Del Oro’s players come into the game with some confidence after last week’s scrimmage against West High.
“We’re very confident,” said Del Oro senior Kenneth Cross. “We have a lot to show everybody. We’re working hard for it.”
Last season, the Titans beat the Suns, 56-6, but this time around Del Oro is led by seven seniors: Cross, Emmanuel Aguiniga Quezada, Mario A. Arellano Jr., Jaidyn M. Brown, Vutha Chhim Martinez Jr., Excaviar L. Foreman Jr., and Roger J. Ramirez Ojeda.
