After a controversial loss at Taft High last week, the Del Oro varsity football team opened its season at home Friday evening with a convincing 44-3 win over Santa Maria.

The Suns offense jumped to a 30-3 halftime lead in which senior Victor Campos scored twice. Campos found the end zone the first time on an 11-yard rushing touchdown that gave the Suns a 13-3 lead. He scored again in the quarter on an 80-yard pass from quarterback Damian Gracian. The junior quarterback threw his second score of the quarter when he connected with senior Dareon Sterling on a 60-yard throw.

According to MaxPreps, Gracian finished with 251 passing yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 16 yards on four carries. Campos ended the night with 174 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns.

The Suns improve their record to 2-1. Their next challenge comes on the road Thursday against McFarland. The Cougars (3-0) defeated Granite Hills in a high-scoring 50-42 road win.
