It was the best of times Wednesday evening for Del Oro senior basketball players Ke’Mani Welch and Gabriel Bocardo. Both were selected to Wednesday’s Kern High School District All-Star basketball game at North High School.
For both players, it was their first invitation to the All-Star game and served as the capstone to outstanding seasons in which Welch and Bocardo were also named to the boys’ and girls’ South Yosemite Horizon League first teams, respectively.
In the girls game, it was Team Ramos earning a 61-56 win over Team Smith, which included Welch.
Meanwhile, the boys game ended with Team Faiella capturing an 82-72 win over Del Oro head varsity coach Mike Cardenas’s team of All-Stars, which included Bocardo.
In addition to the boys and girls games, the event included a dunk competition and a three-point shootout in which Bocardo participated.
